Brico

Shortened from the word bricoleur, a french term, which refers to a person who draws from a diverse range of means to create something new, Brico is a bricolage of my own experiences, drawing from my travels around the world.

Classes

I’m in class at the moment, “Intro to Planet Earth.” Its really hard to concentrate when you’re slightly hung over. I hope not all of the classes are like this. The teacher is standing in the front mumbling… I can’t make out half the things he is saying. There is a powerpoint with planets and different graphs. I don’t understand how I am suppose to absorb anything from this lecture. I could go online and learn more. What I have learned. The sun is big… and for anyone who listens to Brian Regan, “the big yellow one is the sun!” If anything this class does, its to affirm my decision to go to a small school in the states where you actually have to think and interact. I feel as if these sorts of classes are just being able to regurgitate information. My writing has gotten so bad since I have been out of school for nearly three months. I sat down in the lecture theatre, got out my laptop and wrote, “Planet Earth” at the top of a word document. That is all that is on the page still.

I switched out of the planet earth class into the Maori Haka dance class with a bunch of other IES students, then I skyped with MaddieJ I haven’t talked to anyone in so long. Its been almost 3 months!!! When traveling there is no reliable Internet so you have to make a huge effort to stay in contact. My classes are “Television, Media and Sports,” “Mockumentary and Docu-drama,” “Art History from Antiquity,” and “Maori Haka.”

Lauren and I got bored tonight so we mixed some cheap beer and wine together and ran to the beach at 10pm, jumped in and brought a shell back to prove the adventure. It was probably a total of 5 miles. I had a lot of energy after taking a nap from 6 to 7:30.
